Members of the McGill community are invited to take part on a short, but extremely important walk through downtown streets on Tuesday, Oct. 1 – joining the hundreds and hundreds of people who will take part in The March of the Umbrellas, the kick-off of Montreal’s annual Centraide campaign.

Centraide raises millions of dollars every autumn to support 370 agencies in the greater Montreal area that provide help to individuals and families in poverty or who live their lives cut off from contact with others. These agencies have deep community roots and have demonstrated an ability to innovate and work with other partners as they focus on empowering individuals to overcome hardship.

As part of McGill’s commitment to the Montreal community of which it is a part, the University has long been a strong supporter of Centraide. McGill’s annual campaign has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars each year to help people who are hungry, alone, in need of care or a helping hand to get back on their feet.

The McGill Centraide Committee Co-Chairs invite people to join them on Tuesday at the Roddick Gates at 11:25 a.m. sharp, so a big McGill contingent can assemble with the rest of the parade at 11:30. People are encouraged to bring along their own umbrella (preferably red) and to wear a red jacket or sweater to help identify themselves as part of the McGill team. A photo will be taken at the Gates before the march, which begins at noon and ends at 1:15 p.m.
