Posted on Wednesday, July 4, 2012

In April, McGill and casual workers represented by the Association of McGill University Support Employees (AMUSE) signed their first collective agreement.  After less than a year of negotiations, the AMUSE bargaining team presented the agreement to its members who voted in favour by a margin of 96%. The three-year contract, signed on April 20, will expire on April 19, 2015. Membership in AMUSE can reach up to 1,500 members at peak periods during the year and covers more than 600 different positions.   About 4% of AMUSE members are full time casual workers.  Academic casual workers are not part of the AMUSE bargaining unit.

Seated and signing the collective agreement include: Jérôme Turcq, Regional Executive Vice-President (Quebec) Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) ; Amber Gross, Labour Relations Agent and a member of the AMUSE/PSAC bargaining team; Michael Di Grappa, Vice-Principal (Administration and Finance) and Lynne B. Gervais, Associate Vice-Principal (Human Resources).
