Nursing students Katie MacMillan, Katherine Mohsen, Hannah Palmer and Xavier St-Germain Roy officially graduated from the Ingram School of Nursing at the Spring Health Sciences Convocation Ceremony on May 29, 2018, each receiving awards recognizing their individual achievements realized throughout the course of their studies at McGill. Cameron Professor of Medicine and Professor of Physiology and Oncology at McGill University received an honorary doctorate from Queen’s University, the latest recognition of an illustrious career. The degree was conferred during the afternoon convocation ceremony which brought together graduates from the School of Medicine and the School of Nursing.Congratulations Dr. Gold!

On May 31, Dr. Claire Trottier, an Academic Associate working as an Education Specialist at McGill University’s Department of Microbiology and Immunology was presented with the SALTISE (Supporting Active Learning & Technological Innovation in Studies of Education) Best Practices & Pedagogical Innovators Award during the seventh SALTISE conference, an event hosted at McGill which brought together over 300 educators from across 55 post-secondary institutions in Québec and Canada. The award recognizes educators who stand out as leaders in the promotion of academic excellence, use of innovative pedagogies and support their academic communities. Congratulations Dr. Trottier!

Dr. Donald Sheppard, a professor in the Departments of Medicine and Microbiology and Immunology at McGill University’s Faculty of Medicine and a scientist at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre, was the only Canadian among 78 physician-scientists inducted into the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI) in 2018. The induction ceremony and dinner were held on April 20 at the Fairmont Chicago in Chicago, Illinois, as part of the combined annual gathering of the ASCI, the Association of American Physicians and the American Physician Scientists Association. « Over the past month second-year medical student Olivia Monton’s leadership, philanthropic and volunteering acumen have been recognized with her being selected for four different awards.  She was awarded the Senate of Canada 150 Medal by the Honourable Judith Seidman. On April 17, she was one of the 42 recipients at Rideau Hall in Ottawa to receive the Governor General of Canada’s Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers from the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, recognizing the exceptional volunteer achievements of Canadians from across the country in a wide range of fields and paying tribute to the dedication and exemplary commitment of volunteers. McGill’s Family Medicine Graduate Student Society (FMGSS) was recently recognized by the Post Graduate Student Society (PGSS) of McGill University awarded both the Post Graduate Student Association of the Year Award and the Best Academic Event Award. The awards were presented during the 2018 PGSS Awards Night on April 12, an event that aims to recognize students, student groups and student-run events that have proven themselves to be outstanding within PGSS. The awards were presented by Dean Josephine Nalbantoglu of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. For their achievements, the FMGSS will be engraved on a plaque at the entrance of Thomson House.
