Faculty Council meeting wrap-up
In addition to regular business, topics covered during the May 23 Faculty Council meeting included: language requirements for admission into McGill’s Undergraduate Medical Education program, space challenges and opportunities in the Faculty of Medicine, and the creation of a provisional Department of Emergency Medicine. Presentations were also given on the student-led Community Health and Social Medicine Incubator, the new Stem Cell Research Initiative, the Academic Affairs Strategic Plan and a new name for the Department of Ophthalmology. Highlights of the academic year and the myriad kudos received by Faculty members rounded off this last meeting of the 2017-2018 academic year.

Dr. Terence Hébert appointed Assistant Dean, Biomedical Science Education
Dr. Terry Hébert has been appointed to the newly created position of Assistant Dean, Biomedical Science Education, Faculty of Medicine, McGill University. Reporting to the Vice-Dean, Education, as Assistant Dean, Biomedical Science Education, Dr. Hébert, who is Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, will support the implementation of the Faculty of Medicine’s Strategic Education Plan, working to ensure that biomedical science graduates will benefit from a more interactive and interdisciplinary learning experience and be better prepared for multiple career trajectories in academia, health care, industry or government so as to better meet societal needs.

Dr. Gilles Brousseau re-appointed Assistant Dean, Medical Education, Outaouais Region
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Gilles Brousseau has been re-appointed Assistant Dean, Medical Education, Outaouais Region, Faculty of Medicine, McGill University. Since first appointed to this position in 2009, Dr. Brousseau has led McGill’s medical education activities in the Outaouais region, as well as the implementation of the Campus médical en Outaouais, scheduled to open in 2020.

Quebec funds next steps in RVH project
We are very pleased to share with you that the Government of Quebec announced today a $37-million commitment to McGill. The investment is to plan the transformation of the Royal Victoria Hospital into a bold new multidisciplinary research and learning centre for sustainability systems and public policy.
