Call for Nominations – Continuing Professional Development Committees

Live 2018

Dear Colleagues,

As part of our ongoing commitment to ensure inclusive and transparent Faculty governance, the Associate Dean of the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Office, Faculty of Medicine, is currently seeking two new faculty members: one to join the CPD Advisory Committee and one to join the Multidisciplinary Scientific Planning Committee of the Thursday Evening Learning Series (TELS)/Wednesday E-Learning Series (WELS).

REP #1:  CPD Advisory Committee
The nominee should be a member of a McGill Department or School within the Faculty of Medicine with experience in teaching across the learning continuum.

The mandate of the CPD Advisory Committee is to provide guidance to the Associate Dean regarding strategic planning, the design and management of the curriculum, research endeavours, services and the fulfillment of accreditation standards. The Committee is mandated to meet twice per year, with each meeting lasting approximately three hours. Additional meetings may be scheduled as needed.

REP #2:  Multidisciplinary Scientific Planning Committee of the TELS/WELS
The nominee should be a clinician from a McGill Department or School within the Faculty of Medicine with an interest in lifelong learning, including CPD.

The scientific planning committee is involved in all elements of the planning, delivery and evaluation of these two courses, the learning objectives of which are the following:

  • demonstrate competence in a wide variety of family and general practice subjects,
  • outline knowledge of new investigations, management strategies and therapies, and
  • provide practical office-based screening and disease prevention strategies.

Committee members should reflect the courses’ target audience, which includes family physicians, other specialists, allied health care professionals and trainees. Prior experience on a scientific planning committee is considered an asset but is not a requirement. Committee members are expected to attend planning meetings, which are scheduled four to five times per year from January to April. In addition, committee members serve as the moderators for evening learning sessions approximately four times per year.

All nominations must be submitted online and include a few sentences describing the nominee’s interest and the contributions one believes they would bring to the committee. Submissions will be reviewed by the Faculty Council Nominating Committee, which in turn will make recommendations to the Vice-Principal (Health Affairs) and Dean of Medicine, David Eidelman.

Please note that the deadline for submissions is December 21, 2018. Should you have questions about the nominating procedure, please do not hesitate to contact Demetra Kafantaris at demetra.kafantaris@mcgill.ca.

We look forward to receiving your nomination via the online form!

Best regards,

Demetra Kafantaris, MBA
Senior Advisor, Office of the Vice-Principal (Health Affairs) and Dean of Medicine
on behalf of the Faculty Council Nominating Committee
