Surrogate endpoints in global health research: searching for silver bullets?

In a recent article for Nature Microbiology, Dr. Madhukar Pai, Professor and Canada Research Chair in Epidemiology and Global Health and Director of McGill Global Health Programs, highlights the widespread acceptance that surrogate endpoints may not translate into long-term benefits (e.g. lives saved) and serve as a reminder that silver bullets don’t work in global health.
