Religion and mental health: what is the link?

In his most recent blog post for Psychology Today, Dr. Rob Whitley, Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, explores the scientific evidence surrounding religion and mental health.  In light of consistent findings that higher levels of ‘religiosity’ are associated with lower rates of depression, anxiety, substance use disorder and suicidal behavior, Dr. Whitley emphasizes the value of ‘religious competence.’
