Giving Back to Mac

April 2019

Supporting your alma mater. Contributions made by alumni and friends provide critical funding that enables Macdonald to offer students an experience that surpasses their already high expectations for McGill.

Endowed Dean’s Legacy Fund

The FAES endowed Dean’s Legacy Fund gives donors the opportunity to perpetuate their support of the Faculty and empowers the Dean to apply funds in support of the Faculty’s greatest needs. This allows the Dean to be more nimble in responding to emerging challenges and fostering new discoveries that lead to exceptional student and research experience. Loyal donors to Macdonald’s Annual Fund will be able to continue their support in the same way they have during their lifetime for generations to come.

By contributing an endowed gift through your estate plans, the legacy of your annual gift will continue to benefit the Dean’s greatest priorities well into the future.

Suggested bequest language: “I give and bequeath the sum of $…. to McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada to augment the Dean’s Legacy Fund in the Faculty of Agricultural &Environmental Sciences, the income of which is to be used for the Dean’s greatest priorities.”

The following table outlines the amount of endowed funds to perpetuate various levels of annual gifts.

$200 $5,000
$500 $12,500
$1,000 $25,000
$5,000 $125,000
$10,000 $250,000

Making a Gift to Macdonald through the McGill Fund

Donations in support of the Faculty of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences (FAES) have a profound impact on life at Macdonald and their effects cannot be overstated. Rest assured, donations to the McGill Fund that are designated to FAES will support activities at Macdonald and are vital to the Faculty’s ability to provide an outstanding education.

The Finlayson Annual Enhancement Award recognizes annual giving and is presented to the alumni year that raises the largest combined contribution for the Faculty in the fiscal year (October 1-September 30) on a dollar for dollar basis up to a maximum of $10,000. All classes are eligible and remember if your class is actively raising funds for a Reunion Class Gift there is increased opportunity to leave an even larger legacy gift to Macdonald.

Our current Faculty priorities include:

  • Macdonald Farm Community Engagement Centre
  • Scholarships & Student Awards
  • Student Experience Enhancement Fund
  • Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program
  • Macdonald’s Greatest Needs
