Bioresource Professor named Inaugural Liliane & David M Stewart Scholar in Water Resources

June 2012

Dr. Jan Adamowski, Assistant Professor in the Department of Bioresource Engineering, has been appointed as the inaugural Liliane and David M. Stewart Scholar in Water Resources.   This is a new named appointment in the Faculty, and is due to the exceptional generosity of Mrs. Liliane Stewart and the Macdonald Stewart Foundation. The Liliane and David M. Stewart Water Management Program supports the research, training, teaching and outreach activities of the Faculty’s programs in Integrated Water Resources Management and water management for food security.

Dr. Adamowski joined the Faculty in June 2009, and he has since established a very strong and competitive research program in hydrology and integrated water resources management.  He holds research funding from NSERC, SSHRC, FQRNT, and CFI.  In addition, Dr. Adamowski has published 17 refereed papers in high impact journals including:  Journal of Hydrology, Water Resources Research, Journal of Water Resources Management, Journal of Hydrologic Engineering, and the Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering.  He is presently supervising three PhD students, six MSc students, and one Post-doctoral Fellow.

Jan is a team player, a humble person, a dedicated academic and highly valued member of the Macdonald community.  He is the Associate Director of the Brace Centre for Water Resources Management, and Director of the MSc program in Integrated Water Resources Management.  He has redesigned and improved the Program, to the point where it is now the most successful and highly subscribed non-thesis MSc in the Faculty.  Jan is also Secretary to Faculty.  He is in many respects a model professor of exceptional talent.
