From atmospheric chemistry to Academy Award?

Bryan Lee, an M.Sc. student in the Ariya atmospheric and interfacial chemistry research group, has won first prize in NSERC’s Science, Action! Video contest. The contest challenges graduate students in all areas of science and Engineering to produce 60-second videos that explain interesting research in everyday language.

Tomislav Friščić awarded NSERC’s Steacie Memorial Fellowship

The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada has awarded an E.W.R Steacie Memorial Fellowship to Prof. Tomislav Friščić, to support his work in an innovative branch of chemistry that aims to develop environmentally friendly alternatives to solvent-based chemical processes.

NSERC CREATE grants announced at McGill

Earlier today, a total of $21.4 million in new grants from NSERC’s Collaborative Research and Training Experience (CREATE) was announced at a press conference held at McGill’s Bellini Building. Of the total, $1.6 million will go to McGill, to fund a six-year project led by Prof. Jake Barralet, who teaches experimental surgery in the Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry, and specializes in bioceramic applications within orthopaedics.

Vicky Kaspi wins top Canadian science prize

NSERC has named Vicky Kaspi as this year’s recipient of the Gerhard Herzberg Canada Gold Medal for Science and Engineering, NSERC’s highest honour. Researchers Elena Bennett and Yasser Gidi were also honoured by NSERC.
