Saturday turned out to be a banner day for McGill Athletics – as in championship banner – as no fewer than three varsity sports teams combined to complete a record-breaking hat-trick, each winning provincial championships on the same day in the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec.

Seniors Mariam Sylla and Dianna Ros each scored in double figures as the top-seeded McGill Martlets defeated host UNB, the No.8 seed, 58-52 in a sudden-death quarter-final at the ArcelorMittal CIS Final 8 women’s basketball championship, before a packed house at the Richard J. Currie Centre, Thursday.

Mariam Sylla and Alex Kiss-Rusk each recorded a “double-double” as the top-ranked McGill women’s basketball team defeated third-seeded Laval 71-56 to capture a fifth consecutive Quebec conference championship, Saturday, at the RSEQ Final Four tournament, presented by Milk 2 Go Sport.
