NSERC awards over $35M to McGill scientists and engineers

Minister of Science, Kirsty Duncan, announced the 2017 results of the NSERC Discovery Grants Program today in Victoria, British Columbia — a total investment of $515 million in support for fundamental research, over $35 million of which will go to McGill’s researchers in the full range of science and engineering disciplines, from biology and chemistry to advanced materials engineering and astrophysics.

It was a script that would have made Rocky Balboa proud. In just its second year of competition, the McGill Chem-E Car team defied all odds to tie for first place at the recent national championships in Salt Lake City, Utah. The McGill squad beat out 35-team field – including competitors from South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Qatar – to finish tied for top spot with perennial powerhouse and three-time champion, Cornell.
