McGill grad Julie Payette installed as Canada’s GG

Former astronaut and McGill grad Julie Payette (BEng86) was installed on Oct. 2, as Canada’s 29th Governor General. Payette follows David Johnston, who was Principal of McGill from 1979 to 1994, and who served as Governor General since 2010.

Claudia Mitchell named Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Fellow

Earlier today, Claudia Mitchell, James McGill Professor in the Department of Integrated studies, was announced as one of the recipients of a prestigious Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Fellowship. Mitchell’s work in girlhood studies and participatory research has included major research sites in Ethiopia, South Africa and all over Canada.

RSC elects seven McGill scholars to The College

On Sept. 12, the Royal Society of Canada announced 70 new members to The College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists, including seven McGill scholars. With seven members, McGill has more new inductees this year than any other university in the country.

Nine researchers named Fellows of the Royal Society of Canada

Today, the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) announced the induction of 89 new Fellows, nine of whom are McGill researchers and scholars. The new group of Fellows will be formally inducted into the RSC on November 24, in Winnipeg.

Schulich leaders are newest STEM stars

Katherine Sirois of Quebec and Iveta Demirova of British Columbia have been named McGill’s recipients of the prestigious Schulich Leader Scholarships. Created in 2011 by Canadian business leader and philanthropist Seymour Schulich, this annual scholarship program encourages promising high school graduates to embrace STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) in their future careers.
