The influenza virus – or the flu – makes millions of Canadians sick each year, and a vaccine is the best way to prevent it. We’re happy to announce that once again this year, there are sufficient funds to cover the full cost of the flu vaccine for active McGill staff under age 65 who are members of the University’s health and/or dental plans, as well as their eligible dependents under 65.

Environment Canada has issued heavy snowfall warning for the Montreal area for Tuesday and Wednesday. Exams will proceed as scheduled, so give yourself extra time (take an earlier bus or train) to get to your exam venue on time.

McGill grad nominated Commissioner of Official Languages

Raymond Théberge (PhD84) has been nominated to be Canada’s next Commissioner of Official Languages. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (BA94) made the announcement on Thursday morning. Théberge currently serves as the President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Moncton.

Remembering the women of École Polytechnique

McGill will commemorate the Ecole Polytechnique massacre at the Université de Montreal, in which 14 women were murdered on Dec. 6, 1989, and another 14 injured. McGill’s flags will be set at half staff on Wednesday, Dec. 6, and a memorial service will be held at Birks Chapel (3520 University Street, 2nd floor) beginning at 5 p.m.

It’s that time: Exams begin Dec. 8

The Fall final exam period runs from Friday, Dec. 8, until Thursday, Dec. 21. As usual, exams will be held in a morning, afternoon or evening session and the final schedule with room locations can be found on the Exams website.
