McGill has a new, more secure VPN

Posted on Wednesday, July 23, 2014

Phishing_iStockMcGill IT Services now has a new, more secure Virtual Private Network (VPN) to allow faculty, staff and students access to internal McGill systems and resources from outside the McGill network. This VPN, securevpn.mcgill.ca, uses the SSL protocol and will replace inside.mcgill.ca, which uses the “Point-to-Point Tunnelling” protocol.

To use the VPN you will need to install the Cisco AnyConnect app (available for Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS and Android). For instructions on setting up a new VPN connection, see Virtual Private Network (VPN) in the IT Knowledge Base.

VPN is NOT required for Library resources.
Note that McGill students, faculty and staff members DO NOT need a VPN connection to access Library resources when off campus. When you click on any online Library resource, you are prompted to sign in using your McGill Username and Password via EZProxy. Access to the material is then granted, depending on your status.
