Principal urges people to contribute to Typhoon Haiyan relief efforts
In a message issued to the McGill community earlier today, Principal Suzanne Fortier offered her condolences to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan while urging people to support relief efforts in the devastated eastern regions of the Philippines.
“An urgent mobilization of aid has begun and requires an enormous effort,” said Fortier in an email to students, staff and faculty. “Those who wish to contribute may do so best through recognized disaster-relief and charity organizations and I encourage you to help if you can, as soon as possible. The Canadian government has pledged to match funds donated to registered Canadian charities.”
Andre Costopoulos, Dean of Students, has already contacted students from the Philippines so that they are aware of counselling and other help available to them at McGill. Students needing help can contact Counselling Service, Mental Health Service and International Student Services. Staff are urged to contact the Employee Assistance Program through Longpré consultants at (514) 843-7009.
