March 27 lecture: Bills of Rights in the Common Law
Much debate about the legitimacy of judicial review under the Canadian Charter or another Bill of Rights has been abstract and disconnected from legal practice. On March 27, William Dawson Professor at the Faculty of Law, Robert Leckey, will discuss research that aims to integrate on-the-ground sensitivity to legal and professional practice, including judges’ traditional role in the common law, into philosophical and political debates about what judges do in rights cases.
Presented by the McGill Institute for the Study of Canada, the lecture will take place on March 27, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the 1st floor reading room of the MISC offices (3463 Peel). The lecture is free and open to everyone, but RSVPs are appreciated. To register go here. For more information, go here.
