They came, they sawed, they boiled a little water
Over 150 axe-wielding student lumberjacks and Jills from eastern Canada and the U.S. converged on McGill’s Macdonald Campus last Saturday to take part in the University’s 53rd Annual Intercollegiate Woodsmen Competition, part of the Canadian Lumberjack Championships. Twenty teams battled for supremacy in 14 exciting singles, doubles and team events, including the axe throw, swede saw, chain saw, pole climb, snowshoe race, and water boil. When it was all said and done, McGill’s women’s and men’s teams each finished 3rd in the overall standings, while the combined Jack and Jill team finished first. Teams from Dalhousie Agricultural Campus claimed top spot in both the men’s and women’s divisions.
