Mike Babcock, head coach of the Detroit Red Wings and the Canadian Olympic team, took advantage of the NHL lockout to visit his alma mater this past Homecoming weekend.

Babcock, who patrolled the blueline for the McGill Redmen from 1983 to 1987, performed the ceremonial faceoff prior to Friday night’s Ottawa-McGill men’s hockey game at McConnell Arena and was on hand to witness the pre-game banner-raising ceremony commemorating the first-ever CIS national championship won by the Redmen last spring.

On Saturday afternoon, Babcock visited the McGill Bookstore for a public signing of his book Leave No Doubt: A Credo for Chasing Your Dreams.

Later that evening, the physical education graduate was the keynote speaker at the Omni Hotel for the centennial celebration gala of the department of kinesiology and physical education.
