Thanks to several generous donations, the Faculty of Law launched the McCarthy Tétrault Fund for Innovative Legal Education on July 4. Over $450,000 was raised by the prestigious law firm to help McGill law students enhance their professional and business skills. The lead gift came from the firm’s foundation and the rest from the more than 75 McGill Law graduates working at the firm across the country.

The gift from McCarthy Tétrault will provide McGill’s law students with practical and theoretical knowledge and opportunities for leading-edge internships and workshops, with the aim of introducing law students to the business world and the skills required for success.

“The Fund reinforces the Faculty’s avant-garde approach to teaching law,” said Dean of Law Daniel Jutras. “In 1968, the Faculty was the first in the world to grant a double civil law and common law degree, and the Fund will enable us to innovate once again by drawing on the expertise of external stakeholders who are versed in the trends of the business world.”

“We wanted to give the Faculty a flexible, innovative tool,” said Kim Thomassin, McCarthy Tétrault’s Managing Partner, Québec Region. “The activities scheduled will be constantly evolving because they will follow market trends and needs.”.

The McCarthy Tétrault Fund for Innovative Legal Education is the latest in a series of gifts from some of the country’s leading law firms to help McGill contribute to building a just society. To read more about how Canada’s leading law firms are stepping up in support of McGill:
