The McGill Rowing Team won six of eight races to capture the 16th annual Queen’s-McGill Boat Challenge on the Lachine Canal,  Saturday.

It was McGill’s first overall title in four years and the victory improved McGill’s record to 7-9 overall for the Lorne Gales Challenge Cup, which is the Canadian equivalent of the Oxford-Cambridge race in england and the Harvard-Yale competition in the United States.

In the women’s division, McGill swept all four events, including both varsity heavyweight races and a pair of novice races, to outscore Queen’s 6-0 and take home the Challenge Trophy for only the fifth time since it was first presented in 1999. It was the Martlets first victory since 2009.
