Tomlinson trio announced
McGill researchers Xue Liu (Computer Science), Andrew Hendry (Redpath Museum), and Karim Nader (Psychology) have been named winners of the 2012-2013 Tomlinson Science Awards. The Awards are intended to recognize and support excellence and scientific leadership – particularly the collaborative leadership of a research agenda – and provide seed money for emerging research directions, including those of an interdisciplinary nature.
The Awards were established in 2009-2010 in honour of the interdisciplinary collaborators Ernest Rutherford (Nobel Prize in Chemistry 1908) and Frederick Soddy (Nobel Prize in Chemistry 1921), through the endowment of philanthropist, Dr. Richard Tomlinson.
Dr. Peter J. McLeod, a Core Faculty Member at McGill’s Centre for Medical Education, has been awarded the 2012 Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada’s Duncan Graham Award. The Award recognizes an outstanding lifelong contribution to medical education. For more than 40 years, McLeod, a Fellow of the College, profoundly shaped training at McGill and various Montreal-area hospitals.
“Dr. McLeod committed enormous time and energy to shaping thousands of young physicians,” said Royal College CEO Andrew Padmos. “This dedication has shaped and improved patient health not only in Montreal but across Canada.”
Dufour awarded Bank of Canada Fellowship
Economics Professor Jean-Marie Dufour is the recipient of the Bank of Canada’s Fellowship Award for 2012, the Bank announced on April 13. Dufour is one of Canada’s leading econometricians and is internationally recognized for his work on a wide range of topics associated with the analysis of macroeconomic and financial data, the Bank noted. He was first awarded the Bank of Canada Research Fellowship in 2007.
The Bank’s Fellowship Program is designed to encourage leading-edge research and to develop expertise in Canada in a number of areas critical to the Bank’s mandate: macroeconomics, monetary economics and international finance, as well as the economics of financial markets and institutions, including their financial stability.
