A career of groundbreaking research discoveries have made Francis Glorieux, PhD’72, of McGill University and the Shriners Hospital one of Canada’s foremost medical scientists. Now a $3 million endowed chair in his name promises to continue his legacy for generations to come. The new Chair and the storied achievements of Glorieux were celebrated September 13, 2011 at an uplifting event attended by friends, colleagues and the media.

On September 7, over a hundred of McGill University’s most prominent leaders, colleagues and friends came together to celebrate the appointment of Yvonne Steinert as the inaugural Chairholder of the Richard and Sylvia Cruess Chair in Medical Education. The festive evening also provided an opportunity to give thanks to the generous donors who made the new Chair possible, Deirdre Stevenson and Robert Stevenson, BA’49, BD’61, Herbert Black and the Molson Foundation.

Seven medical luminaries from McGill recently became fellows of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (CAHS). This is one of the highest honours bestowed in the country. Four of the McGillians were alumni. Congratulations to all the fellows!
Just over a year ago, the McGill Medicine alumni community lost one of its most cherished friends – ophthalmologist, Mila Oh MDCM’95. The Class of 1995, deeply moved by the life and accomplishments of their departed friend, has since raised over $60,000 toward the Mila Oh Bursary – a fitting tribute to an individual who inspired hope and devotion among all that knew her.
