Exceptional Efforts Recognized

VP-Dean Levin with Dean of Arts Christopher Manfredi, who also won a David Johnton Award this year.

This June, Vice-Principal of Health Affairs and Dean of Medicine Richard I. Levin was honoured by the McGill Alumni Association with the David Johnston Award for his exemplary work in fundraising on behalf of the University’s Annual Fund. The citation noted that “since coming to Montreal and McGill, Dean Levin has made it a priority to reach out and engage McGill alumni.” Some of the programs he has initiated include the Dean’s Leadership Council, the Medicine Alumni Global Awards and the international Dean’s Rounds program.

For Levin, being an envoy has taken him from coast to coast, across borders, to conferences and dinners, and to award banquets and student pizza nights as part of his ambitious Medicine Alumni Global outreach. These endeavours have helped raise an impressive $119-million for Faculty priorities as part of Campaign McGill.

“It is in our universities that students crystallize their understanding of good citizenship,” notes Dean Levin. “By supporting institutions like McGill, we are ensuring the success of the future.”

The Alumni Association prize is named for former McGill Principal David Johnston, who was recently named Canada’s new Governor General.
