A team from the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) and McGill University has made a major breakthrough by unraveling the inner workings of melatonin, also known as the “sleep hormone.” The research, conducted in collaboration with scientists in Italy, reveals the key role played by the melatonin receptor in the brain that promotes deep, restorative sleep.”

After three very stimulating months as chief scientist, I am still very impressed by the excellence and variety of the projects undertaken by our researchers and students. Along with our partners, we must ensure that this work not only continues but intensifies in all of the activity sectors covered by the three Fonds. Since assuming my duties as chief scientist, I served as the chairman of the board of directors of each Fonds for the first time. Our meetings led to productive discussions, and the members of the three boards are committed to ensuring the development and excellence of research in the province.
