And that's not all...

In late March, Macdonald hosted the annual Institute of Food Technologists Student Association (IFTSA) North Atlantic Area Meeting and College Bowl Competition. Students from the University of Maine, Cornell, UMASS Amherst and Rutgers, as well as industry professionals, most notably Christie Tarantino-Dean, the CEO of IFT, attended the event.

Throughout the weekend students had the chance to network, attend an informative industry panel, explore the campus and our research programs, learn about the latest IFT happenings, attend a presentation on Mintel’s global food and drink trends, as well as taste a selection of McAuslan Brewery beers. Students also tested their knowledge of food science, processing, law and other related topics in a trivia-like competition – the College Bowl.

Though the McGill team performed well, the championship was awarded to Cornell, who will compete in the Grand Finals at IFT18 in Chicago.

We are very grateful for the assistance of Anton Angelich, BSc(FSc)’73, who helped organize the event, and Dr. Andrea Papamandjaris, PhD’99, who acted as the moderator for the competition.
