The Macdonald Development and Alumni Relations Office has moved to a new set of offices in Laird Hall (Room 199B, accessible through the Laird Hall doors facing the Centennial Centre). We invite you to come and visit us in our new location.

This year, the Faculty was pleased to recognize the academic achievements of 134 undergraduate and 34 graduate students at the Scholastic Awards presentations held last week. Close to $600,000 in scholarships and fellowships were awarded – $246,540 to undergraduate and $342,965 to graduate students.

“It’s a Halloween that we’ll soon not forget,” said Paul Meldrum, Manager, Macdonald Farm, on the subject of the recent fire on  Radio Noon Food and Farm Report November 12, 2013. Following this interview, Paul received numerous calls from Mac alumni offering help – from donations of bales of hay to food for the volunteers and farm staff.

Winemaker Paula Cook’s Chianti Classico Riserva 2010 has just received the highest honors “Tre bicchieri” in Italy’s renowned Gambero Rosso competition. Cook, BSc(AgEnvSc)’06, operates Tuscany’s Le Miccine.

33 students representing all of the Faculty’s degree programs undertook Bieler Family Internships in Canada, Africa, Asia and Europe over the summer.  Of her experience interning with Les Jardins Carya, U3 Bioresource Engineering student Laurie Bennett pretty much sums up the sentiments expressed by all of the interns, “I yearned for meaningful work, a challenge.  Sometimes it takes an internship to shed light on an unexpected career and life path… Carya was a positive space for learning and interns are treated as members of the team who have something unique to contribute.”

The Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences raised close to $25 million through Campaign McGill.  Our most sincere gratitude is extended to the many donors who believe in the work that is taking place in the Faculty and have invested to ensure that our future is bright. For detailed information of the impact of the campaign on the Faculty visit our Development and Alumni Relations site.  For the full campaign report, click here.

Congratulations to  Mac alum Martha Robinson, DipAgr ’81, BScAgr’85, recipient of the Principal’s Award for Admin and Support Staff (Management and Professional category) which was awarded at the fall Convocation Ceremony at Place des Arts. http://publications.mcgill.ca/reporter/2013/11/superior-staffers-celebrated/
