Canada Foundation for Innovation awards $4.8 million to McGill professor Kalle GehringFriday, January 18th, 2013
Professor Kalle Gehring (Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Medicine) will receive a Leading Edge Fund grant to the tune of $4.8 million from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI). The fund aims to allow researchers to pursue world-class endeavours, attract highly qualified personal and purchase state-of-the art equipment for their work.
Gehring and his colleagues are investigating how to visualize the three-dimensional shapes of biological molecules such as proteins and nucleic acids. This research has the potential to shed light on how diseases such as cancer develop, and how molecules can be shaped for use in structure-based drug design.
Gehring is actually one of three McGill researchers to receive CFI LEF grants this month.
