$1.25 million gift to fund Islamic Institute research

Yesterday, His Excellency Salem Al-Shafi, the first Ambassador from Qatar to Canada, announced a $1.25 million gift to McGill’s Institute of Islamic Studies. The funding commemorates the Institute’s 60th anniversary, and is earmarked for a series of conferences to advance “research related to Islam and the history and civilization of the Islamic world.” To get a taste of the kind of work coming out of the Institute, might we suggest reading a 2010 Headway article about a fascinating medieval pharmacology manuscript that’s attracting scholars from around the world?
