Black Women and the Law

On November 11, the Black Law Students’ Association of McGill (BLSAM) held a panel discussion titled “Black Women and the Law: Reclaiming Spaces and Changing the Narrative of Black Female Success.” The goal of the discussion was to shed light on the barriers that Black women face in the legal world.

The panelists included McGill law students Lillian Boctor, Samanthea Samuels, Stéphanie Déborah Jules, and Alyssa Clutterbuck, and Université de Montréal law student Médigne Gourdet. The student panelists talked about their personal experiences and critical analyses regarding the intersection of Blackness and gender in the field of law.

First year student receives Terry Fox Award!

First year student Jacinthe Dion received a Terry Fox Humanitarian Award, “in recognition of having demonstrated the highest ideals and qualities of citizenship and humanitarian service while in pursuit of excellence in academic, amateur sport, fitness, health, and voluntary community service.”

This award helps students cover their tuition fees.

L’étudiante Aurélie Lanctôt se distingue!

L’étudiante Aurélie Lanctôt, une blogueuse qui écrit souvent pour différents médias en ligne, a récemment publié un livre sur le Parti libéral du Québec et les femmes (HuffPo et Le Devoir l’ont interviewée sur son livre.)

Elle figure aussi parmi les 30 leaders Québecois de moins de 30 ans, tel que choisis par La Presse.

Student publishes book on intellectual policy and investments

DCL Candidate Lukas Vanhonnaeker (LLM’05) has published his first book, a part of which consists of his masters’ thesis that he wrote under the supervision of Prof. Andrea K. Bjorklund.

Titled Intellectual Property Rights as Foreign Direct Investments – From Collision to Collaboration (Elgar, July 2015), Vanhonnaeker’s book examines the interface between intellectual property and foreign direct investments to consider one key question: how do  the international investment law framework and the international legal regime regulating intellectual property converge?

His book is available at Elgar, as a part of the publishers’ International Investment Law series.

Darius Bossé reçoit une bourse de recherche

Darius Bossé, candidat au LLM, a reçu une subvention de 5 000$ dans le cadre du Programme d’appui aux droits linguistiques (PADL) pour un projet de recherche portant sur « L’obligation de faire adopter la version française des textes constitutionnels canadiens » qu’il effectue avec le Professeur François Larocque de l’Université d’Ottawa. Le projet a fait l’objet d’une présentation lors du 6e congrès annuel du PADL à l’Université d’Ottawa le 23 novembre 2015.
