Outreach Programs to benefit from extraordinary donation to Faculty

Outreachclinic Thousands of Montreal’s most vulnerable citizens will continue to receive free dental care thanks to a generous donation made by the Marcelle and Jean Coutu Foundation to the Faculty of Dentistry. In December 2014, the Marcelle and Jean Coutu Foundation made a $3.2 million donation which will ensure the Faculty’s community outreach programs continue to meet the needs of those without access to dental care. Professor Belinda Nicolau awarded grant for Summer Research Institute

Nicolau_Belinda Congratulations to Dr. Belinda Nicolau for her recent grant from the Network for Canadian Oral Health Research (NCOHR). She was awarded $20 000 towards the Summer Research Institute Program. Faculty of Dentistry adopts MMIs for all incoming students

M_mmi_hallway As of September 2015, all new students entering the Faculty of Dentistry will have been interviewed using Multiple Mini Interview (MMIs). The increasingly popular screening method is already used by the Faculty of Medicine at McGill and is most commonly used to assess candidates for admission to educational programs within the health profession. Linda Harrison surpasses role of “mother” in the Simulation Lab

Linda Harrison A wife and mother of two accomplished daughters, Linda Harrison has earned her bragging rights. She transitioned into a her new career at McGill later in life after starting out as a Dental Assistant and then trained to become a Dental Technician specialising in wax up and gold technician. As the Administrator of the Preclinical Lab, the students affectionately refer to her as “mother” and she says it’s her job to see them rise above and conquer! Read more…

Sarah Liu and Alexandra Carella look to their teammates for support through the GPR Program

AC_LS2 Sarah and Alexandra have come together with their fellow residents to create a vibrant new clinic at the Montreal General Hospital. With the recent merger of the Department of Dentistry and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the MGH and the ambulatory dentistry services at the Royal Victoria Hospital, team work has been a key to the new clinics success. Third annual Sharing Smiles Day to promote oral health for people with special needs

SSDIn an attempt to educate and improve oral health care for people with special needs, the Montreal chapter of Oral Health Total Health (OHTH), will be hosting its third annual Sharing Smiles Day event in Montreal. Headed by Natalie Arshat and Kristin Sani, the event will be held on April 19, 2015 at the Miriam Home. Each year OHTH holds the Sharing Smiles Day Events. This annual event is a day filled with games and activities, but also educational sessions for people living in our communities with special needs.
