A look inside the sterilization unit

June 2015

Did you know that we have a hospital-standard sterilization department in the basement of our new facility? The unit specializes in the cleaning and sterilization of all instruments used in the clinic.

Fast Facts:

–       The unit operates from 7:00am until 10:00pm from Monday to Friday

–       1000 items are processed each day

–       2 full-time employees and 2 part-time employees ensure the smooth flow of instruments through the sterilisation process

–       The staff members have on average 15 years of hospital reprocessing experience

–       Sterilization is a four-step process:

  • Instruments are inspected and pre-washed by hand
  • instruments are washed in a Washer disinfector
  • instruments are inspected and packaged
  • instruments are sterilized in the Sterilizers
