MDGSS Seminar: Management of paediatric obstructive sleep apnea from the dentist point of view: Do we have a real impact?

March 2015

Every year the graduate students officially host a seminar as part of McGill Dentistry’s regular seminar/workshop series, inviting a professor that is a leading figure in scientific research and clinical practice. This year we have invited Dr. Carlos Flores-Mir from the University of Alberta. Dr. Flores is an associate professor, head of the department of Orthodontics and director of the Orthodontic graduate program.

Title: Management of paediatric obstructive sleep apnea from the dentist point of view: Do we have a real impact?

Summary: Lately there has been a growing interest about the impact that dentists can have on the management of paediatric sleep apnea (POSA). This presentation will present the current evidence to support the potential role of dentists in screening for POSA. Proper referral to a multidisciplinary team for POSA management will be emphasized. Finally the real impact on POSA signs and symptoms of both or either maxillary expansion or mandibular anteroposterior reposition will be discussed.
