As I enter my second term as Dean, it gives me immense pleasure to reflect on the past five years and the great strides we have made in the Faculty. It also affords me the opportunity to appreciate anew the role you personally have played in achieving our goals to date.
Thank you. Your support has truly helped to realize the extensive renewal and reorganization of the Faculty’s physical space, the establishment of five new interdisciplinary institutes and research centres, enhanced student advising services, expansion of the Arts Internship Program, and new humanities initiatives such as a writer-in-residence program and a senior faculty appointment in digital humanities.
These accomplishments do not begin to cover the full range of activities that make my job both challenging and rewarding. The Faculty has had a triumphant five years and I foresee more success for us as we enter into the final phase of Campaign McGill and as the University celebrates 190 years of excellence. We will meet the challenge of keeping this momentum head on and I am confident I can count on your continued support, crucial now more than ever.
I hope this issue of Focus lets us be inspired by the achievements and dedication of our students, professors and graduates, and showcases our growing role on the world stage.
